Celtic transfer U-turn floated as Jury hand in their verdict (2)

Will Rangers finish off the job on Thursday night in Bilbao to make the semi finals of the Europa League?

KEITH: They’ve given themselves every chance. Athletic are more than decent but they struggled to cut through Rangers at Ibrox. And Barry Ferguson’s side is at its most dangerous on the counter attack.

CRAIG: Rangers' away form on the continent this season has been excellent and they have a chance with big guns back in the side. But it's odds-against. The La Liga side are favourites and look most likely for the last four.

SCOTT: Barry Ferguson certainly put all his eggs in that basket with his Aberdeen team selection. The season now hinges on Bilbao. If they could get through it would be some achievement but I think Athletic Club will have too much,

FRASER: Never say never with this side that’s flakier than a well fired croissant. A performance of the level they produced in Turkey against Fenerbahce will be required. But I fear the marvellous journey will end in the stadium that will host the final.

Should Celtic throw the kitchen sink at persuading Greg Taylor to stay?

KEITH: Yes. With Keiran Tierney on his way home Taylor’s time appears to be up but he proved again at the weekend how important he is for the champions. And with Tierney’s track record of injury issues, Taylor is a player Brendan Rodgers must want to keep around.

CRAIG: Taylor was outstanding against Kilmarnock at the weekend and he plays the role superbly. Celtic should try and keep him.

SCOTT: If they were going to throw the kitchen sink at it they would have done it by now. The fact they haven't is the reason why he is halfway out the door. It would make sense to keep him because Kieran Tierney isn't going to play every week.

FRASER: Yes. He showed on Saturday that he fits their style like a glove. Domestically he is top drawer and at an age where he will be producing his best. Even with Kieran Tierney in the building Celtic need two class operators for a 60-game season.

Is Neil Critchley jacket on a shoogly peg at Tynecastle?

KEITH: Failing to make the top six is not a good look in terms of Critchley’s job security. It’s not all his fault, of course, but his inability to win the games that really matter - like at Motherwell on Saturday - all feels a bit too powder puff for the fans.

CRAIG: No. The Hearts boss inherited a shambles with the team at the bottom of the table. He has done as much as can be expected and still has a Scottish Cup to fight for.

SCOTT: The fans weren't convinced by his appointment. He looked to have turned things around but when the pressure was on they failed to deliver top 6. Hampden could be massive for his future

FRASER: The fans reckon so as their reaction to another hugely disappointing result on Saturday showed. Critchley’s side need to start winning big games - and that means Hampden on Saturday. Missing the top six is a shocker. They have lost that high tempo he brought in from the start. But in his defence he took over a side that had just two points from eight games and now have 40 from 33.

Are St Johnstone Premiership toast already?

KEITH: Sadly, yes. There’s no way back from here for the Saints without some kind of end of heavenly intervention.

CRAIG: Lots can happen in the bottom-six matches, but defeat at Tannadice was a hammer blow and it'll take something unlikely to save them.

SCOTT: It has looked like it for some time. They looked like they might rescue themselves a few weeks ago but Dundee's derby win has killed them. I can't see them turning things around.

FRASER: This is the beauty of the split. The relegation battle is now condensed into five games where every team is playing each other. It’s survival of the fittest and Saints have produced enough recently to suggest they could yet pull off a great escape like last season.
